What does vector format mean?

Vector format files are often used for production, printing and digital work.

Vector format

Vector files do not lose resolution or quality when scaled. You can therefore use vector for production and enlarge it up to several 100 meters without losing quality.

Vector files consist of small points and codes that describe the shape, rather than bitmaps, which consist of pixels and therefore cannot be enlarged.

What are vector files?

Here are some of the typical vector formats:
PDF, AI, EPS and SVG.

Bitmap (Not vector)

When it comes to an image or graphic that is not vector, it is called a bitmap.

This means that it consists of pixels so the logo or image is the size it was born with. It cannot be enlarged without losing quality.

As the image shows, the further you zoom in, the worse the quality becomes. It cannot be used for printing or other production.

What are bitmap files?

Here are some of the typical vector formats:
JPEG, PNG, TIF and GIF.
